When South Carolina high school offensive lineman Eric Mack said Tuesday night he was no longer committed to the home-state Gamecocks and scheduled a press conference for only a few hours later, recruiting observers knew something was up.
Mack announced Wednesday that he planned to sign with Auburn, giving the Tigers a key pickup late in the recruiting process in a geographic areat that is tough to penetrate.
“It’s a family atmostphere down there,” Mack told AuburnSports.com. “They all treated me like I was already part of the team.”
The 6-4, 315-pounder projects as a guard at the college level; Scout.com ranks hiim as the 10th-best prospect at his position in the country. Mack is Auburn’s 23rd verbal commitment.
